Best transaction account: ING DIRECT Orange EverydayING DIRECT - Orange Everyday We expect as a minimum that a transaction account should provide:
ING's account provides all of these, along with the following unique features that make this account stand out:
CommentsAside from making payments online, the other thing that you want a transaction account for this to have easy access to cash. The best feature of ING's Orange Everyday account is the ability to use any ATM in Australia for free (provided you meet the minimum withdraw amount of $200). No other bank account in Australia has this and it is incredibly useful: how many times have you had to run around looking for your bank's ATM just to avoid paying extra fees (or just copped the fee because you couldn't find one)? The account is even more useful if you have a smart phone with internet access. Why? Well you can open an ING Savings Maximiser account which pays a decent rate of interest (6.35% for the first 4 months, then 5%) and keep the money you need for everyday purposes in here. When you need to make a withdraw, EFTPOS, BPAY or Pay Anyone, simply log onto your account via your phone, transfer the money from your ING Savings Maximiser into your ING Everyday account and perform the transaction. This has an added advantage: you don't need to have any money in your Orange Everyday account until the moment you need to use it so if your card and PIN are stolen (for example by a card skimmer) the would be thief would not be out of luck as there would be no money in your account to withdraw! Also consider: Rural Bank ONERural Bank ONE has many great features:
The only feature that it is missing (which is a big one) is the lack of any type of ATM card to withdraw cash. This really makes it unsuitable for most purposes as your main transaction account. However it does have a combination of features that are unique (and useful) in the Australian marketplace: a reasonable interest rate and direct debit access. For those who pay their bills and credit cards by direct debit, this feature is a bonus because it means that you can keep a moderate sum of money in this account to service your direct debits and still earn good interest on that money. |
